Advanced Utility Metering – VISN 15

This $5 million project is for the design-build of utility metering systems for VA facilities throughout the Midwest. It involves the installation of meters for steam, hot water, chilled water, potable water, and gas for all buildings and for the campuses.

This project is a Veterans Administration contract for the design-build of an advanced utility metering system with capabilities to monitor and record consumption of natural gas, domestic water, chilled water, and steam in various buildings throughout all of the nine VAMC campuses and six cemeteries in the VISN 15 region. It included mechanical, electrical, and communications work in occupied areas, coordination with local utilities and municipalities, in-depth research into existing utility systems, and utility hot-taps.  The new metering system used state-of-the-art utility meters communicating across both hard-wired and wireless networks to be collected at a central point and uploaded to an internet based monitoring system.
